He yelled, "breathe, breathe" and immediately people began lurching back and eyes bulged out. It was (of course) undiluted whiskey. Dusty yelled again, "better than a shot" and smiled as he continued to fan the lid and let people sniff. I'm assuming this is a usual part of the tour, but the way Dusty did it makes me not sure. Like we were sniffing moonshine rather than having paid for a tasting. We walked into the office/house of Jack Daniels and Dusty had everyone filed in about the main office and began to tell a story of how Daniels got gangrene from kicking a safe. He then looked around and kind of quietly, but still so the whole group could hear he said, "have you seen the new Jack Daniels commercial?" We nodded obligatorily--I had not see it, but pretended to. "You know the guy waving the whiskey in the field?! That's me!!!" The crowd laughed, but Dusty wasn't finished. "Here I'll show y'all," and no joke he pulled out his I-phone, loaded up Facebook, and showed us the commercial twice. "See there, that's me!"
The tour ended with a tasting as expected. And usually your tour guide describes the difference between each, so you notice the subtle changes in flavor. Dusty just talked through the whole tasting. People looked around wondering if it was ok to drink without direction, but Dusty just kept on talking. Had an amazing long weekend with Kyle in Nashville. The first night we spent at a microbrew and an amazing burger place called "The Pharmacy." I wish I took pictures, but I was deeply engulfed in a conversation about federal politics and how to fix the education system. Only slightly though. The chili burger was amazing! Pictures are from online.
